Patterson and Berwick high school volleyball teams were in action Tuesday when they hosted Franklin and Assumption, respectively. The Lumberjills defeated Franklin, while Berwick fell in four games to Assumption, ranked No. 1 in the latest Division II power rankings released by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. Lumberjills are area's lone volleyball winner Tuesday

The Patterson Lumberjills churned out 12 aces in a three-game sweep of Franklin, 25-11, 25-19, 25-16.
The Lumberjills were led at the serving line by juniors Tamia Washington and Arian Grogan with three aces apiece. Washington added six points, three kills and four digs, while Grogan had five points, one kill, one dig and one block.
Other top contributors for the Lumberjills were junior Gaylen Grogan, two aces, three points, nine kills, one dig, four blocks and two assists; junior Nia Broussard, one point, one kill, two digs and 18 assists; senior Nyria Robinson, five kills; sophomore Makayla Ruiz, two aces, two points, three kills and six digs; and senior Jazmin Evans, one ace, 10 points, one kill and five digs.
In junior varsity action, Patterson won 25-6, 25-22.
The Lumberjills had a strong service game with 19 aces, led by six apiece from freshman Morgan Jones and sophomore Erykah Singleton.
Jones also had four points, while Singleton had two points and two kills, too.
Other top contributors included freshman Madison Paul, three aces, three points and two digs; junior Casie Boudreaux, two aces, four points and two digs; freshman Kiria Grady, two kills; and freshman Tapanga Haven, two points and two assists.
The Patterson Lumberjills (8-2) will return to action today when it hosts South Terrebonne, beginning at 4 p.m.
Berwick falls
to Assumption
The Berwick Lady Panthers took down Assumption in the first set of their ball game Tuesday, but Assumption responded with three straight wins for the 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 13-25, 12-25) win in nondistrict action in Berwick.
Assumption entered the squad as the top-ranked team in Division 2, while Berwick is ranked seventh in Division 3.
In the loss, junior Ashton Morales led the Lady Panthers with five kills, 11 assists and six digs, while sophomore Mary Jordan Melancon had five kills, eight assists and five digs.
Other top contributors included senior Hannah Carpenter, one ace, three kills and 16 digs; sophomore Sydney Aucoin, one ace, six kills and one block; senior Abigail Askew, five kills; and sophomore Roslyn Gros, two aces, one assist and 10 digs.
Berwick (9-6) will return to action Monday when it travels to face Central Lafourche. Freshman action will begin at 4 p.m. with junior varsity to follow at 5 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m.
Morgan City falls
in five games
The Morgan City Lady Tigers took the first two games of its match against South Terrebonne, but the Lady Gators came back with wins in the next three games for a 3-2 win (25-17, 25-13, 21-25, 22-25, 11-15).
The Lady Tigers had 98 digs in the contest, including 30 by senior Brandi Ingram and 23 by freshman Kennedy Hebert.
The Lady Tigers also had 11 blocks and 37 kills, led in both categories by senior Jaiveianna Jones.
Jones had five blocks and 17 kills as well as three aces and 11 digs.
Ingram also had two aces, one kill and one assist, while Hebert also had three kills and one block.
Other top contributors for Morgan City were junior Cecily Feliciano, one ace, two kills, 14 assists and 13 digs; junior Alex Thompson, three kills, three blocks and nine digs; junior Karley Guidry, one ace, one kill, eight assists and four digs; junior Dwanna LeBeau, three kills, two blocks, two assists and two digs; and sophomore Paige Loftin, six kills and two digs.
In junior varsity, Morgan City fell 7-25, 20-25.
Freshman Allie Vincent had one ace, two kills and one dig, while sophomore Katelyn Gautreaux had two assists and four digs.
Other top contributors include sophomore Hannah Gros, seven digs; sophomore Abby Reynaud, one ace, one assist and two digs; sophomore Paige Loftin, one ace, one kill and one dig; and sophomore Faith Crappell, one ace.
Morgan City (5-8) will hit the court again Thursday when it travels to face Assumption. Freshman action will begin at 4 p.m. with junior varsity to follow at 5 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m.
CCHS falls to St. John
Central Catholic fell on the road Tuesday to St. John of Plaquemine 15-25, 19-25, 10-25.
St. John is Division 5’s No. 3-ranked team, while Central Catholic is ranked No. 20 in Division 5.
No individual statistics were available for the Lady Eagles.
Central Catholic (5-12) will return to action Thursday when it hosts Terrebonne. Junior varsity action is set for 4 p.m. with varsity to follow at 5 p.m.
