MCHS falls to Assumption; BHS, CCHS win

We will continue to take one game at a time while having fun in the process.

Assumption High School defeated Morgan City 5-0 in District 7-4A softball action Thursday.
In the loss, Morgan City was held to two hits and committed five errors. Of Assumption’s runs, four were unearned.
Assumption scored a run in the second inning and four more in the fourth for the final.
Marilynn Bailey led the Lady Tigers with a 1-for-2 performance with a triple and a stolen base, while Tyler Hebert was 1-for-4.
Hebert took the loss on the mound for the Lady Tigers. In seven innings, she surrendered five runs — one earned — on eight hits with two walks and fanned four.
Morgan City (14-11 overall, 4-4 in district) will return to action today when it travels to face St. Joseph’s Academy in a nondistrict doubleheader. The first game is set for a 4 p.m. start.
Berwick clinches share
of district title
The Berwick Lady Panthers held off a rally by E.D. White in the Lady Cardinals’ last at bat for an 8-7 win and a share of the District 9-3A title.
The loss was the Lady Cardinals’ first in district this season and the Lady Panthers avenged an earlier season defeat in Berwick to E.D. White. Both teams finished district with 7-1 marks.
While Berwick took as much as a 5-1 lead after its at bat in the top of the third, E.D. White plated three runs in the bottom of the third and one more in the bottom of the fifth to knot the game at 5.
Berwick plated three runs combined in the sixth and seventh innings to extend its lead to 8-5 before E.D. White scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Berwick pounded out 13 hits in the contest.
Jordan Lipari was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs, while Shannon Theriot was 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and a run. Other top contributors included Shelby Bergeron, 2-for-2, a double, an RBI and three runs; Maria Trevino, 2-for-3, a triple and an RBI; Maddie Gray, 1-for-4, two RBIs and a run; and Mary Jordan Melancon, 1-for-4, an RBI.
Sydney Jambois earned the win for the Lady Panthers. In seven innings, she surrendered seven runs on eight hits with two walks and fanned four.
Berwick (12-19) will return to action Monday when it plays Central Catholic in Bayou Vista in a 5 p.m. contest.
CCHS clinches
district title
Central Catholic earned the outright District 7-1A title with a 16-0 win against Ascension Episcopal in four innings.
In the road win, the Lady Eagles broke the game open in the third inning, turning a 2-0 lead into an 11-0 advantage.
The Lady Eagles plated five more runs in the top of the fourth.
“I congratulate my team for their district championship title,” Central Catholic coach Joe Russo said. “We will continue to take one game at a time while having fun in the process.”
Central Catholic’s Kaitlyn Gros finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle as she had a single, a double and a home run along with four RBIs and a run. Other top contributors for the Lady Eagles included Brittany Longman, a single, a double and an RBI; Kimberly Russo, a double and a run; and Hallie Autin, a single, an RBI and two runs.
On the mound, Megan Landry pitched four innings and surrendered three hits, walked two and fanned 10.
Central Catholic (22-3, 11-0) will close out District 7-1A play today with a 4 p.m. contest in Bayou Vista against Lafayette Christian.
