MCHS tennis faces Assumption, E.D. White

The Morgan City High School tennis team competed against Assumption and E.D. White last week.
Against Assumption Thursday, Morgan City won six of eight matches.
In singles’ action, Morgan City took two of three contests as Niki Ring defeated Elizabeth Coleman, 6-1, 6-3, and Karmen Peterson topped Marie Marsh, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.
Morgan City’s lone singles’ set back was a 6-3, 1-6, 3-6 loss by Bailee Hoggatt to Camille Landry.
In girls’ doubles’ action, Morgan City won three of four contests. Faith Crappell and Caylee Deshotel defeated Assumption’s Kate Thibodaux and Madeline Fernandez, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, while Emily Boudreaux and Sarajane Nini defeated Assumption’s Chelsea Hinton and Grace Naquin, 6-2, 6-2. Morgan City’s Alexia Morgan and Emily Loftin defeated Alexandra Stevens and Makenzie Cavalier, 8-4.
Katelyn Gautreaux and Jolee Nini suffered Morgan City’s lone doubles lost as they fell 4-6, 0-6.
In boys’ singles action, Morgan City won one of three contests as Luke Matherne defeated Benton Blanchard, 6-0, 6-0. Morgan City’s Brandon Rock fell to Ryan Simoneaux, 1-6, 2-6, and the Tigers’ Jean Pat Dupuy lost to Trae Simoneaux, 2-6, 0-6.
In boys’ doubles action, Assumption won all three matches. Morgan City’s Tayler Hebert and Noah Sierra fell to Nick Pipsair and Alex Pererra, 0-6, 1-6, while Cain Naquin and Fernando Torres fell to Blaise Crochet and Wesley Adolph, 0-6, 0-6. Morgan City’s Zach Ingram and Blake Singleton fell to Noah Broussard and Ben Woods, 8-6, 4-6, 4-6.
Tuesday against E.D. White, Morgan City’s girls’ team won four of six matches.
In singles’ action, Morgan City took two of three contests as Hoggatt defeated Gabrielle Thibodaux, 6-1, 6-3, and Ring topped Sophia Sirois, 6-2, 6-2. Peterson fell to E.D. White’s Emma Benoit, 5-7, 0-2.
In girls’ doubles action, Morgan City won two of three contests. Gautreaux and Deshotel defeated Caroline Durocher and Sydney Waguespack, 6-2, 8-6, while Boudreaux and Sarajane Nini were victorious against Kailyn Durocher and Isabel Soignet, 6-3, 6-3. Jolee Nini and Crappell fell to a team from E.D. White, 4-6, 6-4, losing a tie breaker.
Morgan City’s boys were swept in singles’ and doubles’ action.
Dupuy fell to Taft Duplechain, 0-6, 0-6, while Rock lost to Joseph Cruse, 4-7, 3-7. Singleton fell to Mason Siegal, 0-6, 1-5.
In doubles’ action, Sierra and Hebert fell to Spencer Chaisson and Cameron Ray, 0-6, 1-6, while Matherne and Ingram fell to Dylan Triche and Jack Donner, 1-6, 0-6. Naquin and Torres fell to Christian Hilebrand and Phillip Constant, 4-6, 4-6.
Morgan City will return to action Wednesday when it hosts New Iberia at 3 p.m. at the Morgan City Tennis Complex.
