Morgan City eases by CCHS

The Morgan City Lady Tigers eased past Central Catholic Tuesday with a 39-16 win at home.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 12-2 lead after the first quarter and extended its lead to 26-4 at the half and 34-7 after three quarters.
Central Catholic outscored Morgan City 9-5 in the fourth period for the final margin.
Laqwaijha Bourgeois led Morgan City with 21 points.
Other scorers for the Lady Tigers were Alisha Singleton with seven; Hailey Lewis, five; and Elicia Dorsey, Steveyion Walker and Nakerial Bourgeois each with two.
Hallie Autin led Central Catholic with seven points, four blocks and five rebounds.
Other top contributors included Taylor Picou, four points, four steals and one assist; Sydney Williams, two points and six rebounds; Elise Hidalgo, two points and one steal; and Rebecca David, one point, seven rebounds and one assist.
Central Catholic (2-3) will return to action Thursday at 5 p.m. when it faces E.D. White in Vandebilt Catholic’s tournament.
Morgan City (5-3) will hit the court again Friday when it travels to face Redemptorist in a 6:30 p.m. contest.
Patterson falls
in overtime
The Patterson Lumberjills fell at home in overtime Tuesday to H.L. Bourgeois, 41-37.
Patterson head coach Tyler Olivier said he only played six girls in the contest, noting that two of his starters and a key reserve were out for the game.
“They played with a lot of heart,” Olivier said of his player’s performance Tuesday, “but missed (free throws) and (turnovers) down the stretch hurt us and played a big role in the result of the game.”
Gaylen Grogan and Jazmin Evans led the Lumberjills with 13 points apiece. Grogan also contributed five rebounds and two blocks, while Evans had two rebounds and one assist.
Other top contributors included Erykah Singleton, seven points, nine rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block; Makayla Ruiz, two points, six rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block; and Kemprielle Williams, two points, one rebound and one assist.
The loss was the Lumberjills’ third straight after a 4-1 start to the season and was their second in as many games in overtime after falling to Lafayette Christian at Centerville’s Tournament of the Teche Saturday.
“I, however, do feel better about last night’s game when comparing it to our last two games against Houma Christian and Lafayette Christian Academy,” Olivier said.
Patterson (4-4) will return to action Monday when it hosts Morgan City in a 6:30 p.m. contest.
Berwick falls
to St. John
The Berwick Lady Panthers fell at St. John of Plaquemine, 39-16, Tuesday.
St. John took a 12-5 lead after the first period and extended it to 17-6 at half.
The home team led 30-12 after three quarters before outscoring Berwick 9-4 in the final period.
Mickenzie Reed and Asia Jackson each scored six points to lead Berwick, while Nicole Johnson added four.
Berwick (0-4) will return to action Thursday when it hosts Ascension Episcopal in a 6:30 p.m. contest.
