North DeSoto eliminates MCHS

The No. 19 Morgan City Lady Tigers fell to No. 14 North DeSoto, 4-1, on the road in the first round of the Division II playoff Friday.
North DeSoto scored two second-half goals to break away from a 2-1 halftime score.
“I thought the game was pretty even despite the score,” Morgan City coach Trevor Patterson said. “We had our chances. We just couldn’t score.”
In the first half, North DeSoto netted the game’s first goal in the first five minutes.
Patterson said his team calmed down and tied the score 20 minutes later when senior Sarah Patterson connected on a goal from 30 yards.
North DeSoto retook the lead just before halftime on a break-away goal for a 2-1 advantage.
Patterson said both teams had multiple chances to score in the second half, but only the Griffins could convert.
Friday’s game was the last for Morgan City High School seniors Lee Anne Price, Paige Comeaux and Sarah Patterson.
Price was a four-year defender, while Comeaux played defense for three years before playing forward this year, while Patterson has played midfield/forward during her time at Morgan City.
Patterson has been selected to play in the state’s high school all-star soccer team for the West Feb. 28 in New Orleans.
North DeSoto will continue postseason play when it takes on No. 3 Ben Franklin Tuesday in second-round action.
