Western Bi-Regionals

The Morgan City High School bowling teams as well as several individual bowlers from Berwick and Central Catholic will be looking to continue their success when they compete in the state’s Western Bi-Regionals today at Petro Bowl.
The Morgan City Lady Tigers, with the No. 2 seed in the girls’ bracket, enter today’s competition as the highest seed of all Tri-City area teams competing.
The Lady Tigers (13-0) will be in action today at 1:30 p.m. against the winner of No. 7 seed Haughton and No. 10 C.E. Byrd.
The winner of the Morgan City contest will play the winner of No. 3 St. Louis and No. 6 Vandebilt Catholic at 3:30 p.m. for the right to advance to the state’s Final Four at All-Star Lanes in Baton Rouge April 12.
Vandebilt Catholic is the defending state champion and a team that Morgan City already has beaten this season.
Morgan City advanced to the bi-regional round after knocking off Central Catholic in regional round action. Meghan Amador led the Lady Tigers with a 613 series, including games of 223, 159 and 231. Other top bowlers for the Lady Tigers were Hannah Pipes, 482 series (169, 165) and Kristi Wright, 471 series (155, 167).
In boys’ action, Morgan City will be looking to make its third consecutive trip to the state’s Final Four.
To advance, the Tigers will have to win three games today. The Tigers, the 2013 state runner-up, are seeded No. 9 in the regional and will face No. 8 seed Comeaux at 11:30 a.m.
If Morgan City wins, it will face the bi-regional’s top seed, Vandebilt Catholic, in a 1:30 p.m. matchup.
The winner then will face the victor out of No. 5 Terrebonne, No. 12 Breaux Bridge and No. 4 Parkway at 3:30 p.m.
The winner of the 3:30 p.m. contest will advance to the state’s Final Four on April 12 at All-Star Lanes in Baton Rouge.
Morgan City advanced to the bi-regionals after knocking off Thibodaux, 24-3, and South Terrebonne, 15.5-11.5.
In the win against South Terrebonne, the Tigers, a No. 5 seed at regionals, pulled the mild upset with the win against the No. 4 seed Gators. Morgan City trailed 11.5-4.5 entering the third game of the match against South Terrebonne, but responded by taking all five of the final games and accompanying additional points for a 15.5-11.5 win.
Morgan City’s top bowlers in the match included Delaune (176, 189, 264) 629 series, Austin Courtney (206, 190, 194) 590 series, Jayson Hidalgo (211, 174, 203) 588 series, Kody Pederson (172, 235, 155) 562 series, Lang Bui (180, 189, 184) 553 series, Jonathan LaCombe (200) and Jonathan Jones (151).
Meanwhile, the area also will be represented by several bowlers competing in singles action.
Central Catholic’s Jada Pennison along with Berwick’s trio of Elle Arcemont, Josie Estay and Mickenzie Reed all advanced to bi-regionals. Pennison had a 157 average, Arcemont had a 156 average, Estay had a 149 average, and Reed had a 144 mark.
The girls’ bowlers will take the lanes at 1:30 p.m.
In boys’ singles action, Berwick’s Quenten Kelly will compete. Kelly advanced to bi-regionals with a 196 average.
He, along with the rest of the boys’ singles bowlers, will compete at 11:30 a.m.
