Earth Day is Friday

Bayou Vista Garden Club Environmental Awareness Chairman Kim Alcina placed signs along Southeast Boulevard to promote community awareness of Earth Day. Earth Day, Friday, founded by the late Sen. Gaylord Nelson, was first organized in 1970 to promote ecology and to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the earth’s environment. Activities can include planting trees, picking up roadside trash, and conducting various programs for recycling and conservation. Bayou Vista Garden Club urges gardeners to “go native” and use plants that grow naturally in the area. Pictured is Shae LeBlanc, first grade student at Berwick Elementary, who assisted Alcina.
