Girl Scout camp sets registration
NEW ORLEANS — Girl Scout Resident Camp provides girls an opportunity to try a variety of fun activities, as they discover the outdoors, according to a Girl Scouts Louisiana East news release.
“Summer camp gets girls off their smart phones and outside,” said Chief Development Officer of Programs and Properties Jill Pollard at Girl Scouts Louisiana East. “Camp is about having fun and making new friends, but it also builds self-reliance and develops leadership skills.”
Girl Scout Resident Camp sessions are offered at Camp Marydale in St. Francisville and Camp Whispering Pines in Independence from May 29 to July 22 to all girls in 1st through 12th grade. Two day to two week sessions range from $50 to $400.
Girls not currently in Girl Scouting are welcome to attend summer camp. There are also sessions being offered this year for Girl Scout troops interested in camping together as a troop.
Priority registration will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. at the council’s regional service center, 545 Colonial Drive, Baton Rouge, on Feb. 16, and at its headquarters, 841 S. Clearview Parkway, New Orleans, on Feb. 18. Priority registration helps guarantee a Girl Scout group or individual girl’s placement in the camp session of her choice before general registration opens on Feb. 20.
Activities vary per session and age level, but may include swimming, boating, outdoor cooking, archery, high or low ropes, rock climbing, hiking, horseback riding and more. The camp programs are accredited by the American Camp Association.
