St. Mary AARP holds December meeting

St. Mary Parish AARP held its monthly meeting Dec. 5 at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center, home of St. Mary AARP, in Morgan City.
Prior to the meeting, members and guests were entertained with dance music from 4 to 5:30 p.m., followed by bingo until 6:15 p.m.
The meeting and meal sponsor for December was Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City. Staff members provided free health screenings to members.
Butch Frazier, Teche Regional CEO, and Sabrina Williams, Teche Regional director of marketing and public relations, spoke about the hospital and what it has to offer to residents. Frazier also presented St. Mary AARP President Bill Darce with a check to fund the AARP holiday fruit baskets. These baskets are given to people in the community over 80 years old.
Dr. Chuck Metz also addressed AARP members about the Inpatient Rehab Department at Teche Regional.
Meeting attendees were served a meal of roast beef and gravy, rice dressing, green beans and salad. The meal was prepared by Mac and Myrt McNemar and their cooking team.
The colors were presented by the Tiger Battalion, Morgan City High School JROTC, under the direction of retired Lt. Col. Cory Williams, senior Army instructor. The Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem followed the presentation of colors. The National Anthem was sung by AARP member Gordon Smith.
To get people into the Christmas spirit, Christ-mas carols were sung by Jahne Bailey of Morgan City High School.
Darce reminded everyone that the AARP Mardi Gras Ball will be held Feb. 4 at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center. Tickets for the ball can be purchased Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the AARP office on Chennault Street in Morgan City.
Birthday and anniversary celebrants were recognized at the meeting with a cake donated by M C Bank.
