Bayou Vista man charged with attack on pregnant woman

A 26-year-old Bayou Vista man was charged with domestic abuse battery Friday after being accused of slapping a pregnant woman on the shoulder and throwing items at her, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Joel Floyd II, 26, of the 1700 block of Cross Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 9:48 p.m. Friday on a warrant for domestic abuse battery (child endangerment). Floyd turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.
During the booking process, a jailer identified an active warrant for his arrest. No bail is set. The warrant is the result of an investigation into a complaint received March 8, Hebert said. A deputy responded to a residence in Bayou Vista. During the investigation, the deputy determined that Floyd slapped a pregnant woman on the shoulder and threw items at her in an attempt to hit her, Hebert said.
Hebert reported responding to 125 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Alvin Ferrande, 26, of the 100 block of Robicheaux Lane in Verdunville, at 10:37 a.m. Sunday on the charges of domestic abuse battery, unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and on a warrant from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office for cyber stalking and telephone harassment.
A deputy responded to a report of a disturbance at residence in Verdunville. During the investigation, the deputy determined that Ferrande grabbed a woman and pushed her during an argument, Hebert said. Ferrande was not at the residence when the deputy arrived, Hebert said.
The deputy initiated a search of the area to locate him. During the search, a deputy was flagged down by a subject at a nearby residence. The person advised the deputy that Ferrande had pushed his way into that residence in an attempt to hide from deputies, the sheriff said. Ferrande was located and jailed with no bail set.
—Paul Fitch, 48, of the 100 block of Rodrigue Court in Schriever, at 1:22 p.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of simple battery, disturbing the peace intoxicated, and simple criminal damage to property. Fitch turned himself in on the warrant at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City. No bail is set.
—Michael Berry, 58, of the 600 block of South Alexander Street in New Orleans, at 4:11 p.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to register as a sex offender and on a warrant for failure by a sex offender to notify law enforcement of a change of address. A deputy transported Berry from the Orleans Parish jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrants. No bail is set.
—Phillip J. Jordon, 49, of the 1200 block of James Street in Siracusaville, at 10:24 p.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of issuing worthless checks. A deputy assigned to patrol the Amelia area made contact with Jordon at his residence and learned of the active warrant for his arrest. Bail is set at $500.
—Willie Vallet Jr., 47, of the 700 block of Marshall Street in Morgan City, at 10:29 p.m. Friday on warrants for failure to appear on the charges of aggravated flight from an officer where human life is in danger, reckless operation of a vehicle, operating a vehicle without a driver’s license, a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia, and a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family.
A deputy assigned to patrol the Centerville area observed a vehicle parked at a business that had closed for the day. As the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver rapidly departed from the area. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, who was identified as Vallet. The deputy discovered Vallet held multiple active warrants for his arrest. Vallet was jailed with no bail set.
—A juvenile female, 16, of Patterson, at 1:17 p.m. Saturday for hit and run driving and no driver’s license. After receiving new information on the case, a deputy conducted a follow up investigation into a complaint of a hit and run incident that occurred in the parking lot of a business on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista.
The deputy identified the juvenile female as the driver of a vehicle that struck another vehicle and then left the scene. The deputy also learned that the juvenile had been operating the vehicle without a license. The juvenile was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
—Larosa Washington, 60, of the 1000 block of Grace Street in Siracusaville, at 11:14 p.m. Saturday on the charge of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling. Deputies responded to a report of several people entering an unoccupied residence in Amelia, Hebert said.
Upon arrival, deputies located an open window and conducted a search of the premises. While doing so, a deputy located Washington in one of the rooms hiding under a blanket. No other people were located in the residence. Following the investigation, Washington was jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. reported the following arrests:
—Brooklyn Carter, 27, of Morgan City, at 12:44 p.m. Friday on the charge of disturbing the peace and on warrant for failure to appear on the charge of careless operation, failure to appear on the charge of no driver’s license and on an East Baton Rouge Parish warrant on the charge of theft.
Officers responded to a disturbance at a motel located on La. 182. An officer encountered Carter, who began to use loud profane language during the investigation. Carter was discovered to be wanted on outstanding warrants for the Sixth Ward Court of Morgan City and East Baton Rouge Parish. She was jailed.
—Amy L. Bullock, 35, of Elaine Street in Morgan City, at 6:12 p.m. Friday on the charges of hit and run and failure to yield with an accident.
A patrolling officer was flagged down in the area of La. 182 and Ditch Avenue in regards to a vehicle crash. The officer was advised that the vehicle involved had fled the scene. Bullock was identified as a suspect in the investigation, Griffin said.
Bullock returned to the Morgan City Police Department and was questioned and admitted to officer that she had been involved in the accident and had fled the scene. She was jailed and released after posting cash bail.
—Randy Babino, 46, of La. 182 in Morgan City, on the charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana second offense and possession of Schedule II crack cocaine.
Officers attempting to locate a wanted person at a La. 182 address and encountered Babino. Officers arriving at the residence detected a strong odor of marijuana. During the investigation officers located suspected marijuana and suspected crack cocaine. Babino, who admitted to the possession of the drugs, was jailed.
—Chase Crappell, 21, of Birchfield Lane in Berwick, at 2:50 p.m. Saturday on the charge of improper turning and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of contempt of court.
An officer patrolling the area of Fifth and Freret streets observed a vehicle make an improper turn. The vehicle was stopped and the driver identified as Crappell. Police discovered Crappell was wanted on an outstanding warrant for the Sixth Ward Court of Morgan City. He was jailed.
—Ryan Vaughn, 31, of Egle Street in Morgan City, at 6:57 p.m. Saturday on the charge of disturbing the peace.
Officers responded to a complaint in the 1300 block of Front Street and encountered Vaughn. During the encounter, Vaughn began to use profane language while yelling and walking down the street, Griffin said. He refused to cooperate with officers’ requests to stop, Griffin said. He was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Darius Brown, 36, of the 400 block of Clements Street in Patterson, at 1:18 p.m. Friday on the charge of theft. Brown was jailed with no bail set yet.
—Brock Broussard, 26, of the 900 block of First Street in Patterson, at 10:24 p.m. Saturday on the charge of possession of marijuana second offense. Broussard was jailed with no bail set yet.
—Willis Verdine, 25, of the 1600 block of Live Oak Street in Patterson, at 11:23 p.m. Saturday on the charge of simple battery. Verdine was released on $319 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
