CAA homebuyer class graduation June 17

A graduation ceremony for St. Mary Community Action Agency’s Homebuyers and Culinary schools will be held June 17 at 6 p.m.
The graduation will take place at the CAA central office in the Peter Pan Head Start gymnasium, 1407 Barrow St., Franklin, with a short reception immediately following.
Chief Executive Officer Almetra J. Franklin said participants successfully completed a five-week course which provided them with information and resources about becoming a homeowner. The course covers information from how to shop for the right home, understanding your credit report, types of mortgage loans, how to save, how to budget and many other topics. This allows homebuyers to get a solid foundation before purchasing their first home.
The culinary participants successfully completed a five-week class in which participants learned and mastered necessary skills to acquire permanent jobs in the food industry. This initiative is funded through the Community Foundation of Acadiana Fund for Gulf Communities grant. The goal for the initiative is to promote healthy thriving families in St. Mary and Vermilion parishes.
