Carnival balls, parades highlight weekend

The krewes of Hephaestus and Amani will each hold a Carnival ball Saturday. Balls for the krewes of Adonis, Nike, Galatea, Dionysus and Hannibal have already been held.
Six parades will be Friday through Fat Tuesday, Feb. 17.
Anniversary recognitions include Adonis, 40 years; Hannibal, 35 years; and the Krewe of Hephaestus, 55 years.
Changes to the Morgan City parade routes also have been announced. The parades for the krewes of Adonis, Galatea and Hephaestus will turn from Ninth Street onto Brashear Avenue instead of onto Clothilde Street due to construction work.
Officials from each krewe remind ball patrons that events begin promptly as scheduled and all viewers should be seated prior to the published start times.
Krewe of Amani
The Krewe of Amani will hold a tableau Saturday. The event at the Patterson Area Civic Center has floor seating for $20 with tickets available from krewe members. Balcony viewing for the 8 p.m. coronation is $5.
Saying farewell will be King and Queen Amani XVII Jerome Jennings Sr. and Chika Carbins-Johnson.
Amani will hold its Lundi Gras parade at 2 p.m. Feb. 16. The procession will line up at Patterson High School and proceed down La. 182 (Main Street) and end at the Place Norman Shopping Center.
Krewe of Hephaestus
The Krewe of Hephaestus, the oldest local krewe, will hold its 55th coronation court at 8 p.m. Saturday at the auditorium. Floor seating is invitation only, but free balcony viewing is available to the public.
Making an appearance will be King and Queen Hephaestus LIV Troy Landry and Alison Bergeron.
Hephaestus will parade Fat Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Morgan City.
The parade will organize at the corner of Sixth and Sycamore streets in Morgan City, proceed down Sixth Street to Marguerite Street, Ninth Street, Brashear Avenue, and Victor II Boulevard, ending at the auditorium.
Siracusa/Greenwood
The Siracusa/Greenwood Mardi Gras Parade will also be held Fat Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Siracusa Subdivision near Morgan City.
Participants will line up on Siracusa Road at 1 p.m. and proceed to James Street and Grace Street before ending at the Siracusaville Recreation Center.
