Commemorating the birth of Christ

A nativity scene is on display at one resident’s home in Morgan City on Sixth Street. The nativity scene tradition, by legend, goes back to the 13th century, when St. Francis of Assisi created a scene with live animals and real people to encourage Christian worship. By tradition, the baby Jesus is placed in the manger on Christmas Eve, and the Magi make their appearance Jan. 6, also known as Three Kings Day. Nativity scenes would remain in place until the end of Epiphany on Feb. 2.
