Deputy, who was injured in shooting, released from hospital

A St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office deputy who was injured in a Dec. 27 shooting in Ashton has been released from the hospital and is now recovering at home, according to the sheriff's office.
The deputy is expected to be able to return to work.
Another person, Gayneaux Paul Trahan Jr., 52, also injured in the shooting, died just before noon Wednesday at Lafayette General Medical Center, KATC in Lafayette reported, quoting the results of public information request to the Louisiana State Police.
According to initial report from State Police, on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office requested State Police detectives investigated an officer-involved shooting that occurred at 18895 Dumesnil Road in Franklin.  Upon arrival, investigators learned that Derrick Bodin, Gayneaux Trahan and a St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Deputy were shot.  All three were transported to area 
hospitals.  The investigation is on-going.
Trahan's role in the events of Dec. 30 was not specified. St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office said initially that they answered an early-morning call to a home owned by Derrick Bodin on Dumensnil Road near Franklin, the KATC reported, quoting state police and St. Mary Assessor's Office records.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office, which said it has handed off the investigation to state police, said deputies arrived to find one person injured. As deputies tried to remove him, the sheriff's office said, they came under fire.The shooter barricaded himself into the house for three hours.
