Design group places kettles at city hall and courthouse

The Design Committee of Franklin has presented a colorful gift to the city and parish: two new sugar kettles to host bouquets of flowers,
One has been placed at the St. Mary Parish Courthouse and the other at Franklin City Hall. Currently they are filled with poinsettias but plans are for three seasonal plantings throughout the year.
The committee organized two years ago when several citizens met and wanted to add flowers around town to promote business and encourage tourism. There were 10 committee members who hoped to eventually pattern the project after one completed in Fairhope, Alabama.
There will be three more kettles placed downtown in the next year, representing the area’s rich agriculture heritage. The committees funding comes from private donations and two Christmas fundraisers in which Franklin citizens and businesses bought Christmas wreaths for their doors. The public is invited to join the club by contacting Club President Diane Chauvin or Vice-President Pattie Simoneaux.
