Feltermans to receive CFA’s 2015 philanthropy award

Community Foundation of Acadiana will honor Sylvia and Fulton C. “Butch” Felterman Jr. at its fifth-annual Leaders in Philanthropy Awards Luncheon Nov. 3 at the Cajundome Convention Center. Doors open at 11 a.m., for the program that is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Sylvia and Butch have been selected to receive the 2015 Leaders in Philanthropy Award for their many outstanding contributions to St. Mary Parish. In 1990, they created the Felterman Foundation, a private foundation that donates to countless organizations each year including police and fire departments, churches and non-profit organizations. Through the foundation, they have also established an annual four-year college scholarship program for outstanding graduates from Patterson.
Butch was instrumental in the creation, development and construction of the Wedell-Williams Memorial Aviation Museum, serving as foundation chairman from 1975-1991. Butch and Sylvia established the David J. Felterman Theater, located inside the museum. The Feltermans’ passion to preserve St. Mary’s rich history is evident in the various restoration projects they have commissioned for the parish.
The Feltermans are two of 14 individuals who will be recognized for making a positive impact in their communities through philanthropy.
The others are:
—Acadia Parish - Charlotte and Joe Freeland
—Evangeline Parish -Kermit and Sheila Miller
—Iberia Parish - Johnny and Cathy Indest
—Lafayette Parish - Paul Hilliard
