Fired Walmart employee drives car into store

SULPHUR, La. (AP) — A 19-year-old Lake Charles man was in custody Friday after he allegedly drove his car into the entrance of the Sulphur Walmart store after being fired.
Police Chief Lewis Coats said Andre Hofemann was arrested Thursday on charges of simple battery of an officer and aggravated criminal damage to property. At his arraignment Friday, he entered a not guilty plea and asked for a public defender to represent him. Assistant Police Chief Billy Craddick said bond had not yet been set.
KPLC-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1uoMOTW ) Hofemann was fired and escorted out of the store around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Coats said Hofemann then got into his car, drove to the store's front entrance and crashed through the barricades and doors. Witnesses told investigators Hofemann then exited his vehicle, entered the store and verbally threatened some of the employees.
No major injuries were reported. Coats said some people reported being cut by broken glass.
Ultimately, Coats said, citizens and employees detained Hofemann until police arrived. Officers had to use stun guns to immobilize him, he said.
Walmart officials did not say why Hofemann was fired or which department he worked in.
