Golf cart decorating contest part of city Christmas event

Organizers are adding a competition to the Franklin Christmas parade.
To participate in the decorating contest, golf carts must be decorated in the theme “Christmas Under the Lampposts” and have a number on the front and back of the golf cart.
Numbers may be picked up from the Office of Community Development in city hall when the golf cart registration form is returned.
Additionally, there will be a sign-in sheet for registrants to print and sign their name next to the given number, which is how all golf carts will be identified for the decorating contest.
The city’s Main Street Board will judge the golf carts and award first, second and third place plaques.
Franklin’s Christmas parade and lamp-lighting ceremony will be Saturday, Dec. 7. Line-up for the parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the corner of Jackson and Main streets. The parade will begin at 6 p.m., roll along Main Street and end at the Courthouse Square.
All golf carts must be registered to be in the parade. Registration ends Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 4 p.m. and is free. For more information, contact the Office of Community Development at 337-828-6345 or at ashields@franklin-la.com.
All schools, churches, nonprofit organizations and social groups are also invited to participate in the Christmas parade. Officials say so far St. John Elementary and Franklin Senior High School are the only schools in St. Mary Parish that have entered the parade.
“Other schools don’t want to be left out,” Mayor Raymond Harris said. “This is a good opportunity to show some school spirit and to support your parish. Also, this is a time that the community should come together and for these groups to be on display during the season of giving and to take a bow for all they do for our community.”
Schools, churches, nonprofit organizations and social groups that would like to participate in this year’s Christmas parade and lamp-lighting ceremony should contact the Office of Community Development at 337-828-6345 or ashields@franklin-la.com.
