Iberia man charged with sex crimes against juveniles

A New Iberia man was arrested Monday on sexual crime charges involving a 6-year-old boy.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said Sidney Istre, 63, of 2716 U.S. 90, New Iberia, was charged Monday morning with five counts of oral sexual battery and six counts of forcible rape.
The sheriff’s office received a complaint May 24 and investigated. Hebert said Istre allegedly had sexual contact with the victim on multiple occasions between 2001-2003.
The detective reportedly also determined that one additional incident involving another male victim occurred in 2003. That victim was 12 years old at the time.
Istre allegedly committed the molestations during fishing trips that he took the children on in the Franklin area.
Istre is a registered sex offender, convicted in 2005 of indecent behavior with juveniles. He turned himself at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville after learning of the warrants for his arrest. No bond has been set.
