Main Street Program will accept grant applications

The Morgan City Main Street Program is accepting façade grant applications from building owners in the Main Street District until May 2, according to a city news release.
The board of directors has allocated $4,000 toward this year’s grants. The reimbursable grants require applicants to make a dollar for dollar match. Applications are available from Beth Portero at City Hall and must be completed and returned by May 2. Anyone with questions should call Portero at 985-385-1770 ext. 112.
The board won’t award a façade grant to do a complete roofing project, but may award a grant for non-flat roof repair for a portion of roof noticeable from the public line of sight.
Other qualifying projects for the grants include:
—Historic features or replacement of missing historic features.
—Stonework or brickwork repair.
—Restoration, repair or replacement of windows, doors, exterior walls, chimneys or other architectural elements
—Awnings, marquees and related exterior lighting and electrical fixtures; removal of modern facades to restore to vintage quality.
—Removal of deteriorated building materials, such as plywood or metal; exterior painting; addition of lighting to existing signs.
—Design, fabrication and installation of signs, especially signs which enhance the pedestrian signs that improve the pedestrian experience and clearly identify the business.
The Historic District Commission must approve all façade grant applications unless the building does not fall within the Historic District. Main Street board members will review all applications and determine which businesses will get the grants.
