Morgan City High honoring Hamer, Stansbury

Gregory J. Hamer Sr. and Judge Kim P. Stansbury will be inducted into the Morgan City High School Hall of Distinction.
Principal Mickey Fabre said the pair will be inducted into the prestigious group of past alumni, teachers and administrators for their notable and impressive achievements and community involvement.
Hamer, a 1964 graduate of Morgan City High School, will be inducted into the “Hall of Distinction” during halftime of tonight’s homecoming game, while Stansbury, a 1969 graduate, will be inducted during halftime of the Senior Night football game Nov. 7.
Hamer earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Louisiana State University in 1968. He was the owner and chief executive officer of several companies including Thunder Bay Offshore, Hamer Industries and Valco Electric. He serves as the owner and chief executive officer of B & G Food Enterprises, operating numerous Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut and Long John Silver restaurants.
He has served on the board of directors for the National Restaurant Association and the Louisiana Restaurant Association. He also served as the president of the Louisiana Restaurant Association in 2000.
Hamer also has served his community in various capacities. He was on the St. Mary Parish Police Jury, the Louisiana Tourist Development Commission and the St. Mary Chamber of Commerce. He was a trustee for the University of Louisiana System in 2008-09 and is the past president and founder of the Atchafalaya Pop Warner Football League. He is a board member for the Krewe of Hephaestus — for which he served as the 2009 king — and the St. Mary Community Fund, Community Foundation of Acadiana.
Hamer also has been recognized with numerous awards and honors including the St. Mary Parish Businessman of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce, the Louisiana Humanitarian of the Year by Louisiana Living Magazine and the 2011 Philanthropist of the Year by the Community Foundation of Acadiana. He also was inducted into the Louisiana Restaurant Hall of Fame in 2002 and the LSU College of Business Hall of Distinction in 2014.
Stansbury earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Nicholls State University in 1973 and a juris doctorate degree from Louisiana State University Law School in 1976, where he graduated in the top 10 percent of his class.
Stansbury served as a board member and president of the St. Mary Parish Bar Association. He is also a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association, the National Juvenile Judges Association and the American Board Association.
He was appointed to serve on the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Board by both Gov. Mike Foster and Gov. Kathleen Blanco. He also was inducted into the Louisiana State University Law School Hall of Fame.
Through his efforts, the Juvenile Service Center was established and offers over a dozen different programs to community youth including an after-school program that provides activities and academic tutoring to students of various ages.
