Organizations, businesses join to bring Christmas to kids

Standing for Community Advancement Association in Sorrel, Four Corners, Ashton and Glencoe held a Christmas parade and festival Sunday afternoon. There was also a bicycle giveaway, and nearly 70 youngsters received bikes donated by local businesses. President Lionel “Butch” Metz said the organization has hosted the parade for 19 years in an effort to promote unity and positivity in the small community. Grand Marshall was Living Word Missionary Baptist Church Pastor Robert L. Purvey, a native of Palestine, Texas and a resident of Four Corners and a member of the Young Preachers Baptist Association and 100 Black Men. He and his wife Shirley Jones Purvey lost their youngest son to an impaired river and have been active in the MADD initiative.
