Parish council to meet Wednesday

Members of the St. Mary Parish Council will convene Wednesday in their first regular session of the year.
Items on the agenda include:
—Election of officers from among the council’s three at-large members.
—Comments by Verdunville resident Mark Bogan to address the illegal use of fireworks.
—Consideration of an ordinance on a servitude agreement with the Port of Morgan City on the Industrial Road project. A public hearing on this item will be called at 5:45 p.m.
—Resolutions of appreciation to retiring judges Edward Leonard Jr. and Charles Porter, and District Attorney Phil Haney for their years of service with the 16th Judicial District Court.
—Resolutions on an engagement letter with attorney J.P. Morella in reference to expropriation of rights-of-way for the St. Peter and Websterville sewer projects; a contract with the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries on the Black Bear Conflict Management Program; amendments to the engineering agreements with Miller Engineers & Associates Inc. on the Franklin drainage improvements project, the parishwide sewer lift station upgrades and the Charenton Canal Industrial Park Project; a contract with FirstCall Network to provide emergency notification services; and an agreement with Caterpillar Inc. on the use and testing of a compactor at the Harold J “Babe” Landry Landfill.
—A request to waive the open container law on Feb. 14 at Cypremort Point during the Krewe of Cypremort Sippers Mardi Gras parade.
—A request by councilman Glen Hidalgo to transfer $8,000 from the Wards 5 and 8 three-tenths percent sales tax fund to Recreation District 3 for repair of backstops for practice fields throughout Bayou Vista.
The regular meeting begins at 6 p.m. on the fifth floor of the courthouse in Franklin and is open to the public.
