Patterson, Berwick city seats contested as qualifying ends

All elected seats in Berwick and Patterson are contested in the Nov. 4 election.
Qualifying for the Nov. 4 election completed Friday. Early voting for the election is Oct. 21 to 28.
Among the highlights is Patterson City Clerk “Pam” Washington, D-Patterson, qualifying against incumbent Patrick M. LaSalle, D-Patterson, for the police chief’s seat.
Also in Patterson, Mayor Rodney Grogan, D-Patterson, faces a challenge from Bealizeia “Billy” Badeaux, no party-Patterson.
Those running for the five council seats in Patterson are Travis “T.D.” Darnell, D-Patterson; Sandra S. Marshall, R-Patterson; William L. “Billy” Picou Jr., R-Patterson; incumbent L.L. “Larry” Mendoza Jr., D-Patterson; incumbent “Joe” Russo III, D-Patterson; incumbent Sandra K. Turner, D-Patterson; incumbent John Rentrop, D-Patterson.
In Berwick, Mayor Louis Ratcliff, no party-Berwick, faces competition for his seat from Jessie J. Boudreaux, no party-Berwick.
Six people qualified for the five council seats in Berwick. They are “Jacki” Ackel, R-Berwick; incumbent Duval H. Arthur Jr., D-Berwick; incumbent Troy M. Lombardo, no party-Berwick; incumbent Damon Robison, no party-Berwick; incumbent “Greg” Roussel, R-Berwick; and Randal Monceaux, R-Berwick.
All school board seats, except one, were filled with no opposition. The race in District 9 (Morgan City area) consists of incumbent William “Bill” McCarty, no party-Morgan City versus “Jeff” Trimm, no party-Morgan City.
The rest of the school board seats were filled primarily by incumbents. They are District 1, Joseph C. Foulcard Jr.; District 2, Mary “Shannette” Lockley, D-Franklin; District 5, Ginger S. Griffin, R-Patterson; District 6, Marilyn J. LaSalle, D-Patterson; District 7, Wayne J. Deslatte, no party-Centerville; District 8, “Mike” Taylor, D-Berwick; District 10, Anthony Streva, no party-Morgan City; and District 11, Roland H. Verret, D-Amelia.
New to the council are District 3 representative Kenneth E. “Kenny” Alfred, R-Bayou Vista, who fills the seat previously held by Ed Payton of Baldwin. Meanwhile, Pearl Barnes Rack, D-Franklin, qualified and took the District 4 seat previously held by Murphy Pontiff whose residence was placed in another district during redistricting.

—District Judge, 16th Judicial District Court, ES 2, Div. A: Anthony “Tony” Thibodeaux, R-Morgan City; and Dean M. Wattigny, R-New Iberia.
—District Judge, 16th Judicial District Court, ES 2, Div. B: Paul deMahy, R-St. Martinville.
—District Judge, 16th Judicial District Court, ES 2, Div. C: Vincent J. Borne, D-Franklin.
—District Judge, 16th Judicial District Court, ES 2, Div. D: James R. McClelland, no party-Franklin.
