Patterson man charged with attempted murder

A 38-year-old Patterson man was charged with attempted murder Saturday in connection with a September 2014 stabbing in Patterson, according to police.
—Jammal Weeden, 38, of Tiffany Street in Patterson, was arrested at 8:02 a.m. Saturday by Morgan City police on a warrant for attempted second degree murder.
Weeden was located at Teche Regional Medical Center and placed under arrest for an outstanding warrant issued by the Patterson Police Department, which was dated September 2014. Weeden was jailed, Morgan City police said.
According to a Patterson Police Department incident report, on Sept. 18, 2004, an officer was advised by a dispatcher to go to the 500 block of Tiffany Street in reference to a caller saying that she heard a woman screaming and saying that blood was all over the house.
After the officer arrived on scene, he spoke with the caller. Two officers spoke with a woman who said that three people had been knocking on the apartment door looking for Weeden to fight with him, according to the report.
The woman said Weeden went outside to smoke a cigarette when the altercation started. Weeden and another man started fighting and Weeden stabbed the other man, the woman told police.
Police learned that the woman stepped in between Weeden and the other man to try to stop them from fighting, according to the report.
The victim told police that he was sitting in the backyard of his apartment when a man approached him with a knife. The victim said Weeden stabbed the victim in the back, the report stated.
Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. reported the following arrests:
—Anthony Charles, 55, of Bowman Street in Morgan City, at 9:07 a.m. Friday on a Terrebonne Parish warrant for failure to appear on the charge of family support.
Charles was located at a Bowman Street residence and jailed.
—Artis Jones, 18, of Birch Street in Morgan City, at 10:05 a.m. Friday on the charge of no driver’s license third offense, resisting an officer and disturbing the peace.
An officer observed a vehicle in the Mount Street area driven by Jones, who officers knew did not have a valid driver’s license, Griffin said.
Officers stopped the vehicle and detained Jones, who could not produce a valid driver’s license. During the arrest, Jones began to resist officers’ attempts to place him in handcuffs and had to be physically subdued. Jones was also accused of yelling profanities and creating a disturbance, which alarmed others in the area. Jones was jailed.
—Travis Lamar, 32, of Palm Street in Morgan City, at 2:52 p.m. Friday on the charges of speeding 27 mph in a 15 mph school zone, possession of Schedule I marijuana, and on warrants for the charges of probation violation, failure to pay probation fee, failure to pay a fine on the charge of issuing worthless checks and contempt of court.
An officer patrolling a school zone area near Federal Avenue observed a speeding vehicle traveling through a marked school zone, which was determined to be traveling 27 mph in a 15 mph zone, Griffin said.
The vehicle was stopped and the driver identified as Lamar, Griffin said. The officer detected a strong odor of marijuana inside the vehicle and located several cigarettes of the substance inside the vehicle, Griffin said. Lamar was jailed.
—Kenneth J. Alfred, 41, of Hilda Street in Morgan City, at 3:41 p.m. Friday on the charges of driving under suspension and possession of Schedule II hydrocodone.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle operated by Alfred in the Brashear Avenue area, Griffin said. The officer was aware and eventually confirmed that Alfred was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, Alfred, was arrested. Upon his arrest, Alfred was found to possess several hydrocodone pills on his person, Griffin said. Alfred confirmed he did not possess a valid prescription, Griffin said. He was jailed.
—Clifton Williams, 22, of Mill Road in Patterson, at 12:17 a.m. Saturday on the charges of possession of Schedule I marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper turning.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle make an improper turn and stopped the vehicle to speak with the driver. The driver, Williams, was identified and during the stop, was found to possess a small amount of suspected marijuana as well as items of drug paraphernalia. Williams was jailed.
—Areana C. Candanedo, 24, of La. 182 in Morgan City, at 8:46 a.m. Saturday on a warrant for the charge of probation violation.
Candanedo was located on Marguerite Street and placed under arrest on an outstanding warrant after being observed by an officer. She was jailed.
—Ryan A. Blanchard, 20, of Oak Street in Pierre Part, at 11:13 a.m. Saturday on the charges of window tint violation, possession of Schedule I marijuana, possession of Schedule II oxycodone and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle with dark tint and stopped the vehicle on La. 70 near Willard Street to speak with the driver. The driver, identified as Blanchard, was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana along with oxycodone, Griffin said. Blanchard was also found to be in possession of paraphernalia used to consume the illegal substances, Griffin said. He was jailed.
—Deidre A. Lewis, 38, of James Street in Morgan City, at 12:18 p.m. Saturday on the charges of obscenity and appearing intoxicated in public and possession of Schedule I marijuana second offense.
—Phillip J. Jordan, 49, of James Street in Morgan City, at 12:18 p.m. Saturday on the charge of possession of Schedule I marijuana second offense.
Officers were dispatched to a La. 182 motel in regards to a woman exposing herself in the parking lot of the motel. Officers arrived and learned that the woman, identified as Lewis, exposed her breasts while in the parking lot, Griffin said.
Officers located Lewis who admitted to the act. During the investigation, a search of a motel room belonging to Lewis and occupied by Jordan, resulted in the recovery of suspected marijuana, Griffin said. Both Lewis and Jordan were jailed.
—Deqwavia J. Hall, 28, of La. 182 in Morgan City, at 3 p.m. Saturday on the charge of aggravated battery with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace.
Officers responded to a complaint of a domestic dispute at a La. 182 motel. Officers learned that the people involved had left the scene, Griffin said. Officers learned that a woman, according to witnesses, had attacked a man in the parking lot, Griffin said. The man involved was located at the Morgan City Police Department after he attempted to report the attack, Griffin said.
Investigators learned that the male victim was attacked by Hall at the motel. Hall was accused of arming herself with a box cutter during the attack and cutting the victim on the arm causing minor injuries, Griffin said. The victim refused medical treatment and opted to obtain treatment himself. Hall later came to the police department where she provided a statement, which corroborated the witnesses’ accounts, Griffin said. She was jailed with bail set at $6,000.
—Kristin A. Sanders, 23, of Bush Street in Morgan City, at 3:57 p.m. Saturday on the charges of remaining where forbidden, disturbing the peace and resisting an officer.
Officers responded to a complaint of a disturbance at a Brashear Avenue location. Officers learned from management that Sanders became involved in a verbal dispute with an employee and refused to leave the premises when asked by store personnel, Griffin said.
Officers located Sanders still at the location. While attempting to settle the dispute, Sanders continued her actions, Griffin said. Store personnel said that they asked Sanders several times to leave, Griffin said. However, she refused their requests, Griffin said.
As officers advised Sanders that she was being placed under arrest for remaining on the premises, she reportedly began to struggle, reaching into her shirt. Officers had to physically secure the object clutched in Sanders hand and she was eventually handcuffed, Griffin said.
Officers recovered money from her clutched hand, and Sanders eventually followed officers’ requests to calm down, Griffin said. She was jailed and released after posting $1,126 cash bail.
—Damarcus D. Mcneal, 17, of Cardinal Street in Morgan City, at 8:43 p.m. Saturday on the charges of possession of Schedule I marijuana with the intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Daniel T. Colbert, 19, of Franklin, at 8:43 p.m. Saturday on a Franklin police warrant on the charge of failure to appear for trial for no driver’s license, on a warrant on the charge of probation violation and a warrant on the charge for failure to appear to pay probation fee.
—Vincent Thomas, 20, of Mount Street in Morgan City, at 5:36 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for two counts of failure to pay fines (drug paraphernalia), failure to pay probation fee, failure to pay fine for possession of stolen things, failure to pay fine (contempt of court), failure to pay fine (synthetic cannabinoids), failure to pay fine (resisting an officer) and possession of Schedule I marijuana second offense.
Officers were summoned to a Brashear Avenue motel room regarding suspicious activity. Officers arrived and located three people inside the room as Mcneal, Colbert and Thomas. Officers began an investigation and during a subsequent search of the room located suspected marijuana along with items of drug paraphernalia, Griffin said.
Mcneal admitted possession of the substance. Thomas was also found to be in possession of suspected marijuana and was placed under arrest. Vincent Thomas and Daniel Colbert were found to be wanted on outstanding warrants. All three were jailed.
—Jacob N. Klenert, 18, of Teche Road in Morgan City, at 5:25 p.m. Sunday on warrants on the charge of failure to pay fines for possession of marijuana and contempt of court.
Klenert was located near the intersection of 11th Street and Railroad Avenue in Morgan City and placed under arrest on outstanding warrants for the Sixth Ward City Court of Morgan City. He was jailed.
—Darren T. Hemphill, 45, of Morgan City, at 9:34 p.m. Sunday on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated.
Officers were dispatched to the area of Greenwood Street near Victor II Boulevard in regards to an intoxicated person, Griffin said. Officers located Hemphill, who was found in an impaired and intoxicated condition. Hemphill was jailed.

—Courtney D. Domangue, 31, of the 300 block of Tiffany Street in Patterson, at 5:08 p.m. Monday on the charges of stop sign violation.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Tremaine Charles, 28, of Grout Street in Patterson, at 3:30 p.m. Monday on a warrant charging her with telephone harassment. Charles posted $1,000 bail.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 39 complaints in the parish and reported no arrests in east St. Mary Parish.
