Patterson woman dies in Maryland wreck

MILLLERSVILLE, MD — A 25-year-old Patterson woman died Saturday after being thrown from an SUV that flipped over a guardrail in Maryland, according to The Capital Gazette in Annapolis.
An accident early Saturday morning on Interstate 97 in Millersville resulted in the death of Salea Brooke Willoughby, 25, the article said.
Maryland State Police responded to the crash just north of Benfield Boulevard at 1:39 a.m. Saturday, the article said.
Police said that Carlie Michelle Cepelak, 21, was driving a Nissan Pathfinder when she swerved to avoid a slow-moving vehicle and then lost control of the sport utility vehicle, according to the article.
Cepelak’s SUV went over a guardrail and overturned, and Willoughby, a passenger, was thrown from the vehicle, the article stated.
Willoughby died at the scene of the accident, police said. According to her obituary, which is in The Daily Review today, Willoughby was a native and lifelong resident of Patterson and died in the wreck while visiting a friend over the holiday.
Willoughby was a former LSU Eunice softball player, according to eunicetoday.com.
The crash is still under investigation, the article said.
