Patterson woman wins Navy honor

MILLINGTON, Tenn. – Petty Officer 1st Class Shallon Davis from Patterson, Louisana, serving with commander, Naval Surface Squadron Fourteen, earned Senior Sailor of the Year for 2015.
The Sailor of the Year Program recognizes superior performance of enlisted personnel emphasizing outstanding achievements, exemplary personal conduct and military bearing, and demonstrated initiative in the performance of duty.
This program also motivates personnel to strive for improvement in their assigned duties and leadership.
“Receiving this honor means that hard work and dedication to command mission and Sailors has been an ongoing success,” Davis said. “The training and my leadership is making a difference and my thanks goes to the chief petty officers, junior sailors, and officers from all my command.”
As a legalman and admin leading petty officer, Davis is responsible for leading seven junior Sailors daily. She gives them guidance on instructions, evaluations, fitness reports and defense travel system. She is also the command’s paralegal keeping her busy with military justice, legal assistance and operational law. She gives legal guidance and training to the legal officers on the waterfront.
“My junior sailors mean the most to me. I enjoy leading and guiding them through personal and professional goals,” said Davis.
“I help molding sailors into the model of diverse sailors for today’s Navy. They are our future!”
Located in Mayport, Florida, Naval Surface Squadron Fourteen trains and assists ships in the Mayport Basin in order for the ships to maintain constant readiness at sea.
Davis, a 1996 graduate of Patterson High School, has served in the Navy for 15 years.
She is the daughter of Glory and Russell McGuire. Her mother resides in Patterson, Louisiana.
