MORGAN CITY — A woman suspected of a hit and run accident in Lafourche Parish struck two other vehicles in Morgan City about 1 p.m. Friday following a police chase, according to Louisiana State Police Troop C Lt. Jody Blanchard.
The accident, near Brashear Avenue and Seventh Street, sent her to an area hospital, Blanchard said.
Weslynn Mariie Martinez, 25, of Golden Meadow, was booked at 1:19 p.m. Friday as a fugitive from Lafourche Parish.
Martinez, driving a Chevrolet Silverado, was suspected of possible impairment and being involved in an earlier accident on La. 308 in Lafourche Parish.
In that accident, a driver reported being hit by the Silverado. State police later located that truck with the help of a person struck in the earlier accident, Blanchard said.
Morgan City Police Capt. James Blair said troopers encountered the vehicle on La. 182 near Gibson at which time the driver of the vehicle fled.
Troopers deployed spikes in the Amelia area in order to disable the vehicle. The vehicle had at least one tire disabled, however, the driver continued into the Morgan City area.
She continued driving erratically down La. 182 and struck two vehicles at the intersection near Cannata’s in Morgan City, Blair said.
Martinez, who received injuries, was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center for treatment. She was released and booked into the Morgan City Jail as a fugitive and released to the Louisiana State Police to be transported back to Lafourche Parish, Blair said.
The unidentified drivers of a Ford SUV and a Ford Excursion, involved in the final crash, were not treated on scene for injuries, Blanchard said.
The departments who assisted state police in the chase were the Morgan City Police Department, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Department and Berwick Police Department. A team from Troop I in Lafayette conducted the crash investigation.
Public information officers from Troops I and C were not available this morning for comment.
