Robertson Street home destroyed
A mobile home fire resulted in the loss of home to residents on Robertson Street Monday.
Franklin Fire Chief Chuck Bourgeois said the fire at 419 Robertson St., Lot 3, showed heavy fire and smoke upon arrival with assistance from Chitimacha and District 11 fire personnel as well as Franklin police. The fire was brought under control in less than an hour and damage was estimated at $50,000.
Residents reported that they were inside the structure when they saw smoke and flames coming from a rear bedroom, Bourgeois said. They were able to safely evacuate the structure prior to the fire departments arrival. An investigation revealed that the fire was started by an electrical short circuit under the mobile home and extended into the structure in the rear bedroom.
Franklin firefighter Justin Martin rescued the family dog that was in a kennel under the home, the chief reported. The puppy was taken to Adrian’s Animal Hospital for treatment of burns and trauma. The fire displaced seven residents. The American Red Cross was called in for assistance.
