School board prepares to find Aguillard's successor

St. Mary Parish Superintendent Donald Aguillard is one of three finalists who have applied for the Lafayette Parish superintendent’s post. And the St. Mary School Board wants to be ready in case it must choose Aguillard’s successor.
The board postponed a special meeting set for today because of potential flooding. But when it takes up the agenda, it will include:
—The possible employment of Hammond & Sills to conduct a superintendent search.
—Approving the advertisement for a superintendent search.
—Approving the timeline and publishers for the advertisement.
—Approving the application for superintendent.
Aguillard, East Baton Rouge Associate Superintendent Carlos Sam and Francis Touchet, a state Department of Education official, are the three Lafayette finalists. The board plans to interview them April 22.
Aguillard has long ties to Lafayette, where he has served as a teacher, Carencro High’s principal and one of four area directors. He has been the St. Mary superintendent since 2004.
Aguillard applied for the previous Lafayette superintendent opening in 2011 but withdrew his name.
