School board will issue honors, examine policies

St. Mary Parish School Board will hold their monthly meeting at 5 p.m. today in Centerville at the central office complex.
Students of the Month Emma Simmons, a Berwick Junior High eighth-grader, and Lucy Cruz, M.D. Shannon Elementary third-grader, will be introduced by Ginger Griffin, school board president.
Griffin will also acknowledge employees of the month Padgett Leonard, Berwick Junior High cafeteria manager and Amanda Chase, M.D. Shannon Elementary first-grade teacher.
Ricky Armelin, school board director of human resources, is scheduled to recognize the 2015-16 St. Mary Parish Teachers of the Year. They are Melinda Lanclos, Raintree Elementary; Lorraine Sinitiere, Patterson Junior High; and Yvette Lake, Berwick High.
In new personnel business, Leonard Armato, school superintendent, seeks board approval of the 2015 policy updated from Forethought Consulting. Items for update are school bus scheduling and routing, student dress code, student suspensions and student expulsion.
In business affairs, Jerry Osborne, bond attorney, will present the adoption of two resolutions providing for the issuance and sale of refunding bonds. The 2015 series bonds are for Consolidated District 1 and Special District 4 of St. Mary Parish.
Permission will be sought from the board to submit the Annual Financial Report furnished by Alton Perry, school board chief financial officer, to the State of Louisiana Department of Education for the year ending June 30, 2015.
