Sheriff: Amelia man punched truck, kicked police car

A 34-year-old Amelia man was charged Sunday in an criminal damage to property investigation, in which he is accused of punching a truck door, and, upon his arrest, kicking the window out of a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office unit, Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Nicholas Grimmett, 34, 100 block of South Verret Street in Amelia, was arrested at 10:19 p.m. Sunday on counts of criminal damage to property and for disturbing the peace. A deputy working in the Bayou Vista area responded to a report of a suspicious person walking on Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, Hebert said.
The deputy made contact with Grimmett and detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath, Hebert said. The deputy learned that Grimmett had punched the door of a nearby truck causing a dent, Hebert said. Grimmett was arrested and transported to the parish jail. During the transport, Grimmett became angry and kicked the patrol vehicle’s window out, Hebert said. Bail is set at $1,000.
Hebert reported responding to 129 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Emilie Pittman, 21, 600 block of Superior Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:14 a.m. Friday on a Thibodaux warrant for failure to appear on charges of disturbing the peace, battery of a police officer, criminal mischief and resisting an officer.
The warrant was issued out of the city of Thibodaux. Pittman presented herself to the Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City. She was jailed.
—Tony Stanton, 25, 3000 block of Allison Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:15 p.m. Friday on a warrant on charges of issuing worthless checks.
A deputy assigned to patrol the Franklin area located Stanton at a residence in Baldwin. Stanton was arrested and later released on a summons to appear in court May 12.
—James Voisin, 30, 400 block of Kyle Street in Berwick, was arrested at 5:49 p.m. Friday for a warrant for failure to appear on charges of criminal neglect of family. Voisin presented himself to the Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City after learning of the active warrant for his arrest. He was jailed with bail set at $4,505.
—Thomas Clay, 52, 100 block of Westside Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 12:10 p.m. Saturday on the charge of disturbing the peace.
A deputy patrolling the Amelia area responded to a call of a disturbance on Westside Lane, Hebert said.
The deputy learned that Clay was yelling and cursing at an individual outside of a residence, Hebert said. Clay was jailed and released after posting $250 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Lakendrick Chambers, 25, 1800 block of Garber Street in Morgan City, was arrested on warrants on the charges of two counts of simple battery, remaining where forbidden, aggravated assault, domestic abuse battery with a child present and a hold on a Morgan City police warrant. Chambers was jailed with no bail set.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
