Student-age seminar set by ‘Hoodstock’

Transitioning into Manhood
Members of the Hoodstock organizatoin invite junior high school and high school-aged students to apply for the Transitioning to Manhood Seminar.
The seminar’s objective is to empower and educate young men to become leaders in their community and promote positive self-esteem and social skills.
The one-day seminar will consist of several clinics provided by area professionals such as an architect, financial advisor and civic leaders:

Peer Pressure
NBA player representative
How to Treat a Lady
Healthy Eating Habits
Planning for the Future
Registration is $30 per student. The event is slated Saturday at the St. Mary Chamber of Commerce office at 727 Myrtle St. in Morgan City from 8 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Each student will be provided breakfast, lunch, a necktie and a certificate.
The event will be fully staffed and chaperoned. Parents/guardians must pick up students promptly at 6 p.m. For more information, call Courtney “Schola” Long at 985-255-0896.
Hoodstock is a committee of young professionals and residents who believe in giving back to their community. Hoodstock is also an event geared toward reviving the values necessary for a self-sufficient and thriving lifestyle among residents of underserved communities.
Members believe that each resident is vested, whether by sentimental value or by real estate, in the community in which they live therefore have STOCK in their neighborHOOD.
Through culture-rich entertainment and distinguished guest speakers, Hoodstock’s mission is to restore a sense of awareness and accountability in these communities. In short, they hope to engage the public to become more politically and socially aware and involved.
Since 2011, members successfully produced an event that bridged the gap between old and young, crossed color lines and broke socio-economic barriers by providing a family-oriented, educational and fun-filled day for adults and children.
