Two charged in assault at Wal-Mart

Two men were arrested Monday after one of the men struck someone in the face at Walmart, and then the second man arrested was seen running into the store pointing a gun at the first man, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Kenneth Wiggins Jr., 43, of the 400 block of Henry Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:43 p.m. Monday on the simple battery.
—Nicholas Thomas, 22, of the 11900 block of Lake Charles Highway in Leesville, was arrested at 10:43 p.m. Monday on the charge of aggravated assault with a firearm.
A deputy responded to a report of a person with a gun at Walmart in Bayou Vista. After questioning the people involved in the incident and viewing video surveillance, the deputy determined that Wiggins struck a man in the face while inside the store, Hebert said.
Shortly after the battery occurred, Thomas was seen running into the store with a gun pointed at Wiggins, Hebert said. Following the investigation, both Wiggins and Thomas were jailed. Wiggins was released on $500 bail. No bail is set for Thomas.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 42 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Christine A. Hughes, 31, of the 200 block of Vivian Street in Morgan City, at 3:26 p.m. Monday on four warrants on the charge of failure to comply with the terms and conditions of drug court. Hughes turned herself in to a deputy on the warrants at the drug court building in Bayou Vista. Bail is set at $400,000.
—Julie A. Gautreaux, 26, of the 7300 block of Shrimpers Row in Dulac, at 4:31 p.m. Monday on a warrant for the charge of theft of goods.
Gautreaux was located in Terrebonne Parish on the warrant, which is the result of an investigation into a theft that occurred at Walmart in Bayou Vista in January, Hebert said. The detective assigned to the case identified Gautreaux as a subject seen on video surveillance concealing multiple new release DVDs before leaving the store without paying for the items, the sheriff said. Gautreaux was jailed and released on $1,000 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Larry Eddy, 51, of Berwick, at 3:30 p.m. Monday on a warrant for the charges of criminal mischief and criminal trespass. The warrant stems from an incident that occurred March 13 during which Eddy was accused of tampering with someone’s vehicle. Eddy was jailed on $600 bail.
Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. reported the following arrests:
—Tiffany Remedies, 25, of Canary Street in Morgan City, at 11:36 p.m. Monday on the charge of possession of Schedule I marijuana first offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile and violation of the uniform controlled dangerous substance law (drug free zone), and possession of Schedule I synthetic marijuana first offense.
Detectives investigating a complaint of illegal narcotics activity at a Brownell Homes residence located Remedies who cooperated in the investigation, Griffin said. During a search of the residence, officers located suspected marijuana, suspected synthetic marijuana along with items determined to be drug paraphernalia. Remedies, who was also in the presence of a juvenile, was jailed.
—Donald Engleton, 53, of Baton Rouge, at 8 a.m. Monday on warrants for failure to pay probation fees and failure to pay fines.
Engleton turned himself in to officers at the Morgan City Police Department and was booked on outstanding warrants for the Sixth Ward City Court of Morgan City. Engleton was jailed.
—Jonathan H. Parker, 32, of Leo Drive in Patterson, at 10:34 p.m. Monday on a 16th Judicial District Court warrant charging him with two counts of probation violation.
During a police investigation in the Brownell Homes area, officers came into contact with Parker. Officers learned he was wanted on outstanding warrants. Parker was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
