Vehicle crash knocks out Berwick traffic light

During a three-vehicle crash Tuesday night near the traffic light at the U.S. 90 and La. 182 intersection, one vehicle hit the traffic control cabinet, knocking out power to the traffic signal, Berwick Police Chief James Richard said.
At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, a 2014 Kia Soul driven by Christina Everitt, 36, of Bayou Vista, was traveling east and taking the U.S. 90/La. 182 exit, coming into Berwick, where she allegedly ran a red light, Richard said. At that time, a 2008 Honda Civic traveling west to exit the U.S. 90 off ramp, driven by Trevor Hebert, 20, of Bayou Vista, struck the Kia broadside, Richard said.
After the initial collision, a 2005 Chevrolet Impala driven by Marques Garner, 25, of North Columbus, Mississippi, struck the Kia as well, Richard said.
The Kia then struck the traffic control cabinet for the intersection, causing all the lights at the intersection to go out due to severe damage to cabinet, Richard said. Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development officials and Cleco officials came to the scene and partially repaired the light, Richard said.
DOTD Spokeswoman Deidra Druilhet said DOTD officials were scheduled to replace the traffic control cabinet at about 10:30 a.m. today. Work on the traffic signal was not expected to affect traffic, Druilhet said.
Everitt was cited for failing to stop at a red light, Richard said. Everitt sustained minor injuries and was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center, the chief said. No other injuries were reported, he said.
