270 ballots cast in St. Mary; early voting continues through Feb. 27

Two hundred seventy voters cast their ballots for the presidential primary in St. Mary Parish by the end of the first day of early voting Saturday.
Ninety-seven people voted Saturday in the parish, while 173 cast ballots by mail ahead of the start of early voting. Fifty-eight voters voted in Franklin Saturday, and 39 voters voted in Morgan City.
A total of 201 white voters, 68 black voters and one voter of another race have cast their ballots. One hundred thirty-eight Democrats and 132 Republicans voted, while 112 men and 158 women voted.
Early voting for the March 5 presidential preference primary continues through Feb. 27. Hours for early voting are 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Early voting will be conducted at the St. Mary Parish Registrar of Voters Office on the third floor of the Parish Courthouse in Franklin and also at the registrar’s branch office located at 301 Third St. in Morgan City. You may vote at either location regardless of your address.
The ballot includes Presidential primaries for the Democratic and Republican parties. Only registered Democrats and Republicans are eligible to vote, and you must vote your party.
Also on the ballot is election of a member of the Republican State Central Committee, 21st Senate District, Division A. Only registered Republicans on the west end of the parish can vote on that seat.
