Tri-City area may receive up to 6 inches of rain

The Tri-City area can expect between 3 to 6 inches of rain starting Wednesday and wrapping up Friday, National Weather Service Meteorologist Roger Erickson said.

“Today looks fine but Wednesday and Thursday look real bad,” Erickson said.

The National Weather Service is expecting a heavy rain and possible flooding across the region this week.

Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be the wettest days for the area, Erickson said.

Winds are expected to be 20 to 25 mph with gusts of 30 mph.

“We’re also looking at strong southeasterly winds,” Erickson said. “We have a wind advisory in effect today. And we’ll probably have that again tomorrow. So it’ll be windy both today and tomorrow.”

Due to strong winds, there is a coastal flood warning in effect for the area.

“People down in Burns Point area typically have an issue from that,” Erickson said.

The coastal flood warning will be in effect until Friday.

“The only thing that is going to be an issue is if we have a high tide,” Erickson said

The timeline each day to receive the worst water coming in is usually around 3 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The Atchafalaya River is not expected to cause a flood because it is a large basin.

A flash flood watch is in effect for southeast Texas and southwest and central Louisiana.

This will result in not only flash floods during the heavy rain, but extend to possible moderate to major flooding on area rivers.

Tomorrow, there is a small risk for tornadoes and damaging winds from storms in the area, Erickson said.
