The fire on the M/V Carolyn Tuesday in Siracusaville was started by a cutting torch that ignited new oil filters, said Morgan City Fire Chief Alvin Cockerham .
A crew using a gas operated torch was cutting steel when the filters caught fire.
The fire was contained in a compartment of the boat.
No pollution occurred as a result of the fire.
One firefighter had some scalding and blistering on his hand from the hot steel. After being checked Tuesday by medical professionals, the fireman was released to return to work, Cockerham said.
The firefighters responded to the fire around 8 a.m. Tuesday.
The boat was docked on the Intracoastal Waterway, behind the old ABC Bait Co.
