PC breezes through May meet

St. Mary Parish Council members made short work of their agenda Wednesday in a quarter-hour regular session.
Among items addressed, the council approved subdivision of property owned by Don N. Boudreaux of Centerville.
Ordinances were introduced for installation of a four-way stop sign at Southeast Boulevard and Delmar Avenue, and at Arlington Street and Fairview Street, both in Bayou Vista. A third amends the “precincts designated” section of the code of ordinances.
An additional introduction was approved at the request of Chief Administrative Office Henry “Bo” LaGrange for a long list of surplus property to be sold.
The council also approved ordinances renewing a 5.72 mil tax for the St. Mary Parish Library system, excluding Morgan City, and a 1.25 mills tax on property; and renewal of 7.25 mills “for all local and parochial purposes and a 3.62 mills tax within municipalities to “help defray the expenses of the criminal justice system” in the parish.
Approved resolutions were:
—Resolutions of respect in memory of Frederick John “Fred” Roy and Scott Paul Haydel.
—Authorizing Twin Brothers Marine, LLC to participate in the Quality Jobs Program.
—Resolution endorsing Allison Marine Morgan City to participate in the Enterprise Zone program.
—Authorizing the parish president to execute an agreement with Acadiane Renovations for the parish courthouse floodproofing project.
—Authorizing Don Abner Tabor to participate in the Quality Jobs Program.
—Authorizing the parish president to execute a contract with Acadiane Renovations to a “wind retrofit of critical facilities.”
—Authorizing the parish president to retain legal services on an as-needed basis relating to planning and zoning.
Councilman Glen Hidalgo abstained from voting on the Allison Marine and wind retrofit resolutions.
The council postponed making an appointment to the Fire Protection Dist. 11 board; and Olivia Sue Patrick, was appointed to serve on the board of Recreation Dist. 5.
There are also nominations to the St. Mary Levee District panel for council Dist. III.
The council agreed to reallocate $10,000 from the Wards 5 and 8 three-tenth sales tax fund to Fire Dist. 7 for improvements to the fire station. Those funds were previously allocated and had to be reallocated in the new budget year.
The Banner-Tribune was reaffirmed as the parish’s official journal for the coming year.
Councilmembers also approved a $20,000 request from Waterworks Dist. 5, $20,000 from the parish for a $53,891 installation of an additional 10-inch main waterline on the south side of U.S. 90 near La. 317 for a distance of 1,462 feet and joining with the existing main line near the parish jail.
LaGrange said the allocation will be taken from the jail construction fund.
A request of $10,000 from the Wards, 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 10 three-tenths sales tax fund for painting of Grevemberg House Museum was also approved.
