Industrial Road to provide oilfield trucks alternate route

Officials broke ground Wednesday on a project to build a road that will give oilfield non-hazardous waste trucks an alternate route so they do not have travel through residential areas.
St. Mary Parish President Paul Naquin said the roughly $1.3 million Industrial Road project in Morgan City was funded by the Coastal Impact Assistance Program. The parish acquired a piece of land to build the road at the south end of Federal Avenue that will also tie into the Port of Morgan City on Youngs Road, he said. Construction is expected to take about six months, he said. Workers are going to put up a small fence on the side of the road to reduce noise in that area, Naquin said.
The construction of the road is aimed at providing a different route for oilfield non-hazardous waste trucks so they do not have to go through the middle of the community, Naquin said. This project is the fourth Coast Impact Assistance Program project the parish has done, Naquin said.
