Bayou Vista water, sewer rates increase

St. Mary Parish Water & Sewer Commission No. 2 increased rates effective Jan. 1.
Due to rising costs of supplies and sewer treatment, an increase is necessary at this time, Commission Chairman Herbert Adams said in a news release this morning.
The flat fee for water and sewer will increase from $6 to $6.50. Water will increase from $2 per 1,000 gallons to $2.75. Sewer will increase from $2 per 1,000 gallons of water usage to $2.50.
For the customer with an average usage of 3,000 gallons, the increase will be $4.75 for water and sewer, Adams said.
He added that this is the first increase since 2008 and the third in 20 years.
The district strives to continue to provide water of the highest standard at the lowest cost possible, Adams said.
