Prep hoops power rankings are updated
The Louisiana High School Athletic Association released its latest unofficial girls’ and boys’ basketball power rankings Tuesday morning.
In boys’ competition, Central Catholic made the biggest jump with a four-spot leap from a week ago to No. 31 in the latest Class 1A rankings.
Patterson also jumped two spots from last week’s rankings to No. 13 in Class 3A.
Meanwhile, both Berwick’s and Morgan City’s boys’ basketball teams fell in the latest rankings, with Berwick falling seven spots to No. 49 in the 3A rankings. Morgan City fell four spots in the 4A rankings to No. 35.
The top-ranked boys’ teams in Classes 4A, 3A and 1A remained the same from a week ago with Edna Karr, University Lab and Madison Prep holding down the top spots, respectively.
In girls’ rankings, Central Catholic was the only team to make any upward movement in this week’s rankings, with a three-spot jump from No. 43 to No. 40.
Morgan City had the biggest fall, dropping from No. 26 to No. 31, while Patterson dropped two spots.
Berwick remained at the bottom of Class 3A at No. 64.
The only change among the top teams in Classes 4A, 3A and 1A occurred in Class 4A where Salmen now is the top-ranked team, replacing Edna Karr from atop the rankings a week ago. University Lab and North Central remain the top-ranked teams in Classes 3A and 1A, respectively.
The top 32 teams in each classification will advance to the postseason in girls’ and boys’ basketball. Playoffs begin next month.
