Port readies road, dredging projects
Dredging at the Port of West St. Mary’s channel will begin soon.
The port commission authorized the dredging at a previous meeting. Executive Director David Allain said Tuesday that the contractor is on site and has done preliminary surveys of the job site.
Allain said there is a discharge line from the water plant that needed to be shortened to accommodate the dredging, and will be restored after the job is done.
An electrical main line also runs through an area of the port site where dredge material would be stored. That electrical line feeds several tenants. Allain said plans have been established to avoid the line.
Allain also said crews have been working at the industrial site, though weather has been inclement. The port is constructing roads at the site and will dig a slip and install a bulkhead.
