Student arrested at alternative school

Two students at the St. Mary Parish Alternative School in Verdunville were charged Tuesday in connection with a fight, and another student was charged with assault stemming from two separate incidents, Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—A juvenile male, 14, of Franklin, and juvenile male, 15, of Bayou Vista, were arrested at 10:19 a.m. Tuesday on the charge of simple battery. A school resource officer responded to a fight in progress in a classroom at the St. Mary Parish Alternative School, Hebert said. The juveniles were separated and later released to parents pending juvenile court proceedings.
—A juvenile male, 11, of Franklin, was arrested Tuesday at 2:41 p.m. on the charge of aggravated assault. A deputy assigned to duties at the Alternative School responded to a disturbance in the cafeteria.
The deputy learned that the 11-year-old juvenile had in his possession a broken piece of glass and threatened to cut another student. The juvenile was arrested and released to a parent pending juvenile court proceedings.
Hebert reported responding to 39 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Myles Morgan, 27, of the 1000 block of Front Street in Morgan City, at 6:24 a.m. Tuesday for a warrant on charges of attempted unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, disturbing the peace and resisting an officer. Morgan was jailed with no bail set.
—Joey Francois, 34, of the 200 block of Robin Street in Morgan City, at 4:14 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for the charge of possession of marijuana and a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of angling without a license. Francois was transferred from the Assumption Parish Jail to St. Mary. No bail is set.
—Mark Buteaux, 47, of the 100 block of Shady Grove in Patterson, at 8:14 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of issuing worthless checks. A deputy assigned to patrol the Amelia area located Buteaux at a residence on Leroy’s Lane, Hebert said. He was released on a summons to appear in court May 12.
—Jose Quintanilla, 17, of the 700 block of Arlington Street in Bayou Vista, at 9:32 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of possession of marijuana and violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law as it applies to drug free zones.
A deputy patrolling the Bayou Vista area conducted a stop with occupants of a truck stationed at the Bayou Vista Skate Park, Hebert said. The deputy made contact with the occupants of the truck and found Quintanilla to be in possession of marijuana. Quintanilla was released on a summons to appear in court May 12.
—Cade Hatch, 17, of the 700 block of Prairie Road in Franklin, at 9:32 p.m. Tuesday for possession of drug paraphernalia. A deputy patrolling the Bayou Vista area conducted a stop with occupants of a truck stationed at the Bayou Vista Skate Park. The deputy made contact with the occupants of the truck and found Hatch to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, Hebert said.
Hatch was released on a summons to appear in court May 12.
—Joseph Quebedeaux, 35, of the 200 block of Walnut Street in Arnaudville, at 10:38 a.m. Tuesday on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Narcotics detectives were called out to assist patrol deputies with a single vehicle crash.
The crash occurred in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 90 near Amelia.
During a search of the vehicle driven by Quebedeaux, detectives located marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Quebedeaux was released on a summons to appear in court May 12.
Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. reported the following arrests:
—Areana C. Candanedo, 25, of La. 182 in Morgan City, at 9:05 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to pay a fine on the charge of no driver’s license.
Candanedo, who was incarcerated in the Morgan City Jail, was booked on a warrant for the Sixth Ward Court of Morgan City.
—Barry L. Jones, 27, of Bowman Street in Morgan City, at 11:12 a.m. Tuesday on warrants for the charge of contempt of court, failure to pay fine driving under suspension and failure to pay probation fee.
Jones was located on Cane Road. He was jailed and released after posting cash bail.
—Quintin Douglas, 23, of Tiffany Street in Patterson, at 8:59 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of driving under suspension and improper lighting.
An officer observed a vehicle with improper lighting near the intersection of Myrtle Street and Railroad Avenue and stopped the vehicle to speak with the driver. The driver, Douglas, was discovered to be operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. He was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
