Brittany’s Project event Saturday

Brittany’s Project presents its Fourth Annual Car Show Fundraiser Saturday.
Each year the fundraiser brings in visitors and participants of people from Virginia, Kentucky, Florida, Texas and surrounding states for a one of a kind event. The event is a fundraiser for Brittany’s Project’s future facility for individuals with disabilities to enjoy recreation, educational seminars, summer camp, monthly activities and being in their social network within the community.
The event is a day filled with fun for the entire family including rat rod grass races with Franklin’s Rat Rod Chapter and Bone Yard Kreepers of LaRose, the monster truck Coal Train crushing cars, a mud pit for those trucks that dig in the mud and get down and dirty and an antique engine display. There will also be a tractor display, the Show and Shine car show with Top 75 presentations plus specialties and craft vendors. The St. Mary Sheriff’s Department will be cooking up south Louisiana’s finest jambalaya. The Knights of Columbus and the Lemoine family will be preparing hamburgers, hotdogs, nachos. Barbecue pulled pork will be prepared by Franklin chef, Theo Verrette. The Danny Barrilleaux family and the AT&T Berwick Crew will serve chicken spaghetti, and there will be fried fish prepared by KC3 Electric and the Keith Clements family.
The event continues on through the evening with live bands from 4:30 p.m. to midnight. The band line up is Rockin’ Randall and Natural Satisfaction from 4:30-6 p.m.; Bayou Classics from 6:30-8 p.m.; Toni O & Blue Eyed Soul Review from 8:30-10 p.m.; and T-Rouge & LA Special from 10:30 p.m. - midnight.
The Kiddie Coral will be open from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. offering games, barrel train, slide and pictures with Elsa and Belle. A professional face painter and balloon artist will be with the children from 1-4 p.m.
Charge for spectators is $10 per family of five. Wrist bands allow for all day pass. The event is held at the Oaklawn Bridge Approach Road between Irish Bend Road and La. 87.
Miss Franklin Hayley Hiles will sing the national anthem and perform a mini concert at 9 a.m. Robert Chauvin will be providing DJ services for the day.
Brittany’s Special Friends will participate in the awards ceremony at 3 p.m. that afternoon.
Show and Shine car show registration is $30 at the gate.
The Cruise In to the Sonic and O’Reilly Auto is set for Friday Evening from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. for a special night of live music and viewing the old cars.
This past year, Brittany’s Project has offered a seminar on estate planning, guardianship and wills by local attorney Joseph Tabb. Their Special Friends enjoyed dances, a Valentine’s dance, involvement in the Art of Respect along with Department of Health and Hospitals and waiver services and a Christmas banquet with all the fun and excitement a family could ask for.
A sit down meal was prepared and games were played. Mitch Richard, entertainer, put many smiles on their faces, and then Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus made a visit, presenting gifts to the families.
Brittany’s Project was introduced to the Tim Tebow Foundation’s offer of the “Night To Shine” prom back in November 2014. Brittany’s Project approached The Crossing Place Fellowship in Franklin to inquire of their interest in hosting such a prom. They jumped on board and Ashley Falterman, volunteers from the Brittany’s Project and many from The Crossing Place Fellowhip made the Night To Shine prom a lasting memory to all who attended in February.
