A lesson about amateur radio

Sophie Webster, a fourth-grader at Holy Cross, recently visited the radio room of the Bayouland Emergency Amateur Radio Service, BEARS. Sophie chose as her social studies project the life and accomplishments of Samuel Morse and in so doing, observed and listened to radio communications in Morse code. The next public BEARS event will be April 18 in Franklin on the banks of Bayou Teche for a special event station publicizing the Bayou Teche Black Bear Festival. Hams from throughout the United States and some foreign countries look forward to talking to the local hams and receive information on the Bear Festival and St. Mary Parish.
