WSM Port completes canal site water line

West St. Mary Parish Port Commissioners took a revenue neutral stance on renewal of its ad valorem millage.
The port district levies 3.72 mills in support of the port and its facilities.
The only public comment was from Ted McIntyre, owner of Marine Turbine Technologies, who sent a representative to object to the tax.
Executive Director David Allain also reported that maintenance dredging at the port is slated for this week. A dredge will be on the site to remove material in the port’s waterways to restore its depth.
Allain also said the water main to the industrial park complex on the Charenton Navigation and Drainage Canal is substantially complete.
The commission approved payment requests from Miller Engineers and Associates at $2,842 and Southern Contractors for $79,264. The total cost of the project was $154,000.
There have also been some minor flooring repairs to the port office due to a small section of rotten wood.
The cost was $950, Allain said.
