Caregiver accused of stealing medication

A 47-year-old Verdunville woman is accused of stealing 60 tramadol pills from an 85-year-old woman for whom she worked as a caregiver, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Kelly L. Broussard, 47, of the 100 block of Palmer Lane in Verdunville, was arrested at 2:26 a.m. today on a warrant charging her with theft. The warrant is the result of an investigation into a complaint received in January regarding 60 missing tramadol pills from a residence in Centerville.
The deputy assigned to the case learned that Broussard, the caregiver of the 85-year-old homebound victim, stole the pills while in the female victim’s residence, Hebert said. During the investigation, Broussard admitted to the deputy that she took the pills from the home, Hebert said.
Early this morning, a deputy assigned to patrol the Ricohoc area observed a woman walking on La. 182 and made contact with her, Hebert said. The deputy identified her as Broussard. She was jailed with bail set at $1,000.
Hebert reported responding to 44 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Rand Metrejean Jr., 49, of the 100 block of West Side Park Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 8:26 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant for simple battery and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of careless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to report an accident, and failure to honor written promise to appear.
The simple battery warrant stems from an investigation into a complaint of a disturbance that occurred at a residence on West Side Park Lane in Amelia in June 2014, Hebert said.
The deputy learned that Metrejean punched a male victim in the face during an argument, Hebert said. The victim was treated at a local hospital and later released. Metrejean turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville. Bail is set at $844.50.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Jaquita Johnson, 25, of Patterson, was arrested at 4:01 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of telephone harassment, simple assault and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.
Officers responded to a residence to investigate a telephone harassment complaint. When officers arrived, they could hear yelling coming from inside the residence, Blair said.
The victim told officers that Johnson had been calling her and making threats to her and then arrived at her house and walked in and began yelling, Blair said. Johnson was jailed.
—John Johnson, 53, of Patterson, was arrested at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of speeding and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of no insurance.
A patrol officer monitoring traffic in a school zone observed a vehicle speeding, Blair said. The driver, identified as Johnson, was jailed and released after posting cash bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
