Monday morning fire
A woman and her 10-year-old son were displaced after a fire broke out at their rented residence at 411 Nora St. Monday morning. Franklin Fire Chief Chuck Bourgeois said the fire was reported at 7:41 a.m. Response time was 3 minutes with heavy smoke and flames showing on the left side of the brick house upon arrival. Two pumpers, a service unit and a ladder truck were on scene and mutual aid was provided by Centerville and District 11 fire departments. The fire was under control by 8:19 a.m. Resident Detra Thomas and her son were able to get out of the structure unharmed. Bourgeois said he believes the fire originated in a bedroom due to a short in an electrical outlet. Red Cross is providing temporary housing for Thomas and her son for three nights.
