St. Mary Central 12U continue in north regionals

The St. Mary Central 12U All-Stars went 2-1 during weekend action in the Dixie Youth North Regional Tournament in Winnsboro.
St. Mary Central, the District 3 runner-up, opened tournament play Friday against District 2 champion Pontiff Playground. Pontiff led 4-3 going into the fifth inning when St. Mary Central exploited for six runs en route to a 10-4 victory.
The pitchers for St. Mary Central were Ross Thomas tossing 11/3 innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs with a strikeout and three base on balls. Clay Menard got the win throwing 22/3 innings, allowing two hits and an earned run with two K’s and three walks. Carter Williams pitched two innings while surrendering a hit with three strikeouts and three walks.
Top hitters were Menard, 2-for-3 with two singles; Grant Hebert, 1-4 with a double; Williams, 2-for-3 with a single and a double; and Matthew Broussard, 1-for-2 with a single. Other top hitters included Robert Conner, 1-for-3 with a single; Parker Kulka, 2-for-3 with two singles; Tanner Simmons, 1-for-1 with a single; Drew Rock, 1-for-1 with a home run; and Hayden Landry, 1-for-2 with a single.
In Saturday’s game, Union Parish upended St. Mary Central 14-3 in five innings.
The local team jumped out to a 3-1 lead but Union Parish scored 13 runs in the next two innings.
The starting pitcher for St. Mary Central was Ryan Domingue, throwing 3-plus innings, allowing seven hits, five runs (three earned), with a strikeout to take the loss. Simmons tossed an inning, surrendering two hits with an earned run and Thomas threw an inning, allowing three hits, eight runs (two earned) with a strikeout.
Leading hitters were Menard and Hebert, each 1-for-2 with a single; and Simmons, 2-for-2 with two singles.
On Sunday, St. Mary Central’s third game of the tournament was another win with the local team nipping Franklinton 12-11. St. Mary Central All-Stars scored seven runs in the sixth inning to hang on to the win.
Menard picked up the win, throwing five innings while allowing seven hits, five earned runs with three strikeouts and a walk. Williams threw one inning, allowing three hits with four earned runs and two walks.
Leading hitters were Menard, 1-for-3 with a home run and two runs; Simmons, 1-for-3 with a single; Williams, 1-for-4 with a single; Hebert, 1-for-2 with a double; Thomas, 2-for-2 with two singles; Broussard, 1-for-4 with a single; Conner, 2-for-4 with two singles; and Kulka, 1-for-4 with a single.
St. Mary Central 12U All-Stars play the Monroe Americans at 5 p.m. today.
